| Counties | It's hard at times to know where to put some towns as over time they have moved between their traditional county and a newer administrive area. I have tried where possible to use the current county, so for instance, Ashford Middlesex, is shown as Ashford Surrey. I like Wikipedia - type in the town or village you are looking for and you should be able to see the current county and (if appropriate) the traditional county. |
| Help with Searching | If you are not sure of the county (and see help item for Counties above) or towns in the area, try broad searches to start with - just a county (and adjacent Counties) and see what there is. |
| Can't find a Volunteer | That's possibly as there is no volunteer yet for the area where you are looking. Please try looking for nearby towns or counties as some volunteers do say they cover a larger area. Please also consider volunteering yourself, even if it's for your very local area, as the more volunteers there are, the better the site is for everybody. |
| What format Picture? | There is no set format for digitial files. JPEG is a common format that the vast majority of people are happy with, although others may be possible - please discuss directly with the volunteer. I would recommend a standard level of compression (15% to 25%) but again please discuss with your volunteer. Please remember that not everyone is a whiz with computer & camera graphics software, or perhaps even their own camera, so it can be confusing placing exact demands or expecting detailed answers to questions. The main aim is have a picture of a reasonable quality. |
| Who owns the Picture? | I would say the photograher owns the pictures they take, unless they explicitly pass ownership on to the requester. And that the photographer agrees that the requester has free use of the picture for their own personal use, including putting it on websites etc. It would be nice to acknowlege the photograher and this website. |
| How long does it take? | It's up to the volunteer. All of us have lives to live, and the aim is to fit the photography in as and when. I would expect the volunteer to let you know how long they might take pretty quickly after you making the request, but it could take weeks before they are in the right place (especially if they say this in their comments), so please be prepared to wait. |
